Redemption in a Stanza

As an arrogant and ignorant adolescent and teen, I disdained many of the fine arts, or at least large portions of them. It wasn’t because I had not been exposed to them; perhaps my rejection was based more upon the fact that I had been exposed to them. You know, classic rebellion and all that nonsensical drivel…

But as an adult, I found a new appreciation for many facets of the finer things. Heck, I even went from thinking poetry was completely stupid to just finding it largely overrated.

And I’m thankful for that. Being open to shifting tastes and perspectives has not only allowed for new appreciations but for new memories, such as holding the hand of my girlfriend (now wife) on our first Valentine’s date while we listened with wrapped attention as the Czech National Symphony Orchestra performed this incredible piece.

Now, a simple musical stanza transports me to a time and place of fond recollection, emotional connection, and redemption of the years the locust had eaten.
