Allen Mowery

Meet the Host

Allen Mowery

Purveyor of Satire, Unintentional Philosopher, and

Collector of Obscure Knowledge

If you’ve ever heard Perfectly Poetic and thought, “Who is this guy waxing poetic about 19th-century heartache while simultaneously roasting modern dating apps?” — allow us to introduce you to Allen Mowery, the voice, brains, and barely-contained sarcasm behind the mic.

Allen is a nationally-published former commercial photographer, award-winning designer, one-time industry news columnist, and lifelong storyteller. But don’t let the resume fool you — he’s far more comfortable elbow-deep in cultural commentary and obscure historical rabbit holes than rubbing shoulders at black-tie galas (though he does clean up nicely, according to his wife).

Raised in Central Pennsylvania — where the cows outnumber the stoplights — Allen has spent his life absorbing the world with a camera in one hand, a pen in the other, and a head full of existential questions and inappropriate metaphors. His work has spanned marketing, media production, emergency medicine (yes, really), and the fine art of trying not to roll his eyes during social encounters.

From Poems to Podcasts

Perfectly Poetic started as a creative experiment — a place to dust off old poems, poke fun at their melodrama, and occasionally get swept up in their unexpected brilliance. But like all good creative things, it evolved.

Now, under Allen’s sarcastically insightful guidance, Perfectly Poetic isn’t just a podcast about poetry — it’s a cultural critique wrapped in rhyme. It’s part literary salon, part stand-up set, and part late-night existential therapy session. And Allen? He’s your slightly-overcaffeinated host, ready to deconstruct everything from Romanticism to haikus, with a healthy dose of snark and sincerity.

Off-Mic, On-Brand

When Allen isn’t recording, editing, researching 18th-century literary beefs, or trying to find where he put that one podcast idea scribbled on a grocery receipt, he’s probably:

  • Getting irrationally excited about fly fishing gear

  • Talking himself out of starting another historical documentary project

  • Debating the poetic merit of obscure hymnals

  • Or making a perfect bowl of Rice Krispies — which is, according to Allen, an art form.

He’s also a husband, a thinker, a skeptic with idealistic undertones, and a firm believer that storytelling is one of the most sacred (and underappreciated) ways we connect as humans.

Why This Podcast Exists

Allen created Perfectly Poetic because he believes poetry isn’t just for tweed-wearing academics or people who light candles before journaling. It’s for all of us. The overthinkers, the hopeless romantics, the deeply skeptical, and the people who accidentally cry while reading Yeats on the toilet. If you’ve ever felt too smart to enjoy poetry but too emotional not to — this podcast is for you. And Allen is your guide.
